Delta-V: What is it?

Delta-v is defined as the total change in velocity throughout the crash event; it has long been validated as an indicator of crash and injury severity.

Over the years, event data recorders, or EDRs, have become more common in vehicles. These technologies capture the vehicle's velocity profile during a collision event, allowing valuable crash information to be obtained outside a labratory setting. This advancement, however, isn't seamless, downloading and interpreting the data still requires a physical connection to the vehicle and specialized technology. Because this process isn't cost-effective or scalable, delta-v and other crash insights are limited to high-value or complex claims.

As of today, Talems' technology uses computer vision and complex models to provide a delta-v value from only an image, one of the earliest and most widely accessible sources of information within a claim. Obtaining this crash and injury metric at the start of a claim, is extremely beneficial to creating a consistent and streamlined approach to segmentation and assignment, but also enables key medical decisions, such as approving medical care quickly.

With this metric readily available you can benefit your adjusting team, claims process, and the claimant.
