Full Stack Developer

Job Brief

We are seeking Full Stack Developers to join our team and are motivated to collaborate closely with our designer team, product owners and other developers. In this role, you are confident in your ability to influence the initial specifications for new products and features, while being excited about the ability to build and modify our backend APIs. You will write front-end code that integrates with our backend APIs, and you will be responsible for continuous improvements once implemented.

Responsibilities

  • Create, build, test and maintain web applications and services.
  • Implement APIs for integrating with web and mobile applications.
  • Collaborate with our product and design teams to both customize and elevate our user experience on the front-end.
  • Analyze and enhance application code for effectiveness and performance.
  • Write clean and well-organized code in accordance with industry best practices.
  • Participate 1n peer reviewing of code and provide feedback and expertise with team members.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience with PHP.
  • 3+ years of experience of developing SPA or MVC web apps.
  • 3+ years of experience with frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony or Django.
  • 3+ years of experience with React/Vue/Angular.
  • Designing and building out REST APIs.
  • Write clean code and communicate effectively.
  • Experience with CI/CD, AWS, RDS, etc.
  • Familiarity with testing unit testing and end-to-end testing

Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Job Brief

We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to help us create artificial intelligence products.

Machine Learning Engineer responsibilities include creating machine learning models and retraining systems. To do this job successfully, you need exceptional skills in statistics and programming. If you also know data science and software engineering, we’d like to meet you.

Your ultimate goal will be to shape and build efficient self-learning applications.

Responsibilities

  • Translate our business needs into correct machine learning problems
  • Select appropriate datasets and data representation methods
  • Design and implement machine learning systems
  • Research and implement appropriate ML algorithms and tools
  • Develop machine learning applications and deploy them into production
  • Perform statistical analysis and fine-tuning using test results
  • Communicate the results of the study and models to non-technical stakeholders
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or similar role for 5+ years, having deployed models in production.
  • Understanding of data structures, data modelling and software architecture
  • Deep knowledge of maths, probability, statistics and algorithms
  • Ability to write robust code in Python and R
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (like Keras or PyTorch) and libraries (like sci-kit-learn)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Masters in Computer Science, Mathematics or similar field; Or equivalent industry experience

Financial Controller

Job Brief

At Talem, we count on our team to solve complex business problems with creativity and passion. We are seeking a Financial Controller to join us in this mission, playing a key role in the accounting and financial operations of the business.

Objectives

  • Timely and accurate financial reporting for the business
  • Handling cash management and foreign exchange needs for the business
  • Organizing, overseeing and approving payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
  • Managing tax compliance and reporting for the business
  • Preparing and submitting various grant and loan applications and claims to maximize the Company’s cashflow

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and preparing monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements and working papers
  • Coordinating year-end activities with independent auditors or reviewers; coordinating and providing supporting information as required
  • Preparing actual to budget variance reports with requisite investigation of variances
  • Performing treasury functions including day-to-day management of cash balances and account-by-account cash requirements, including foreign exchange considerations
  • Reviewing, approving and submitting payrolls for Canadian and US employees
  • Reviewing, approving and submitting payment runs for Accounts Payable invoices
  • Reviewing and approving customer invoices
  • Ensuring various sales tax and other tax reporting and remittance requirements are performed and submitted on a timely basis
  • Preparing and submitting monthly or periodic applications and/or claims for various grant and loan programs
  • Other duties as may reasonably be required

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • CPA with 2+ years of post-qualification experience or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with spreadsheet software (MS Excel and/or Google Sheets)
  • Knowledge of and basic proficiency with administrative software (Email, word processing, and presentation software)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, remote team environment
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative in completing tasks and/or improving processes

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience with Quickbooks, Plooto, Bill.com, WagePoint, Gusto and Humi software
  • Software company experience
  • Experience with multicurrency (CAD and USD) operations
